10 Songs I’ve Been Running To

8

I think a good playlist is essential to running life.  I listen to songs that I normally don’t listen to when I run.  I kind of feel like I need to listen to songs that make me want to get in a fight.  They seem to give me a little more energy.  It’s probably all in my head, but here’s what I’ve been listening to in the mornings!  Also, go to Reluctant Runners every Friday for their picks for the week!

1.  Hey Mama by Mat Kearney.  Just a good starter song.  I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re looking for a good push towards the end.

2.  Lose Yourself by Eminem.  As my friend says, it’s hard to listen to this song and not get pumped up…unless his wife is singing it.

3.  All I Do Is Win by DJ Khaled with a few special guests.  This should probably just be my theme song because, really, all I do is win.

4. ‘Till I Collapse by Eminem.  This is usually a good one for when I feel like I’m about ready to collapse…hence the inclusion on the playlist.

5.  Forget You by Cee Lo Green.  I went with the clean version.  I just like the song.  Good beat.

6. Funky Jesus Music by TobyMac and Beckah Shae.  Just a fun song great for a little boost!

7.  So What by P!nk.  I love P!nk.  I love her music.  I love her attitude.  This song is the best of both worlds.

8.  Funhouse by P!nk.  Ditto from above…except she’s burning a house down full of evil clowns…metaphorically speaking…hopefully.

9. No Plan B by Manafest.  There’s a lyric in there that says that I can’t turn around.  There are times during the runs I need to hear that.

10.  Say Hey (I Love You) by Michael Franti/Wavin’ Flag by K’naan.  I had two more songs that I have gone back and forth between.  I usually like Wavin’ Flag more than Say Hey, but do enjoy both.  Both good for warming up or cooling down!

What songs do you like to work out to?  Or if you don’t work out, what songs make you want to fight?  I’m going to revamp my playlist soon!

Okay, so I would not have pegged you for an Eminem fan…at all…I learned something today. I love the new Building 429 CD, and the song One Foot is pretty good…how about Good Morning by Mandisa with TobyMac?! She can cheer you on to Get Up and Get Going! I’m awe of you for running…Keep it up…I’ll keep walking and riding my bike 🙂

    • I’m totally not and Eminem fan! Those two songs, though, make me angry enough to push a little harder on my run. It’s insane. I was running to Stronger by Mandisa. It’s such a great song. I’ll have to give Good Morning a try! If I hadn’t put on here that I was running the 5k here, I would totally prefer biking! I will admit, though, after a long run, I feel like I can do just about anything. Definitely know what they’re talking about when they say a runner’s high!!

  • I am so glad to see this as your topic. I have been needing to update my “running” playlist, and I am always curious as to what songs others are using for that extra push and motivation. I plan on downloading a few of your picks.

Here are a few of my playlist favs that provide the needed beat to keep me moving:

Woohoo, Christina Aguilera and Nicki Manaj
    One Tribe, Black Eyed Peas
    Teeth, Lady Gaga
    On the Floor, Jennifer Lopez
Rockafeller Skank, Fatboy Slim V Koen Groeneveld
Thunderstruck, AC/DC (This is my absolute favorite for getting fired up.)

Sorry, I don’t know how to type them in as links like you did, which was very handy, by the way.

Keep running, Jules. I’ll be running there with you at the FF 5K in September, if my knee behaves.

    • The only one of those I’ve heard is Thunderstruck! I’m going to have to check them out. Thanks! By the way, you probably won’t see me at our 5k. You’ll be too far ahead…lol That’s all right, though. I’m just in it to finish it and not to win. I’ll be pretty pumped just to run the whole dang thing!

  • Lose Yourself is just divine for pushing through a tough workout. Not that I work out.

If I did I would also include Run The World by Beyonce; Blow by Ke$ha; and Work by Kelly Rowland.

    • I have never heard of those songs. I’ve actually been living under a rock for the past however many years. Actually I probably know them, but don’t know the names. I’ll check them out! Thanks!

  • I love Mary J. Blige. I would run to “Work That” often. She has some awesome songs to run with. India.Arie is another that inspires me to be better. She keeps my heart up, when my ego wants to give up.
