It’s Not Me. It’s You.2
**I apologize for not posting Monday. I ran a half marathon Sunday and was in no mental or physical shape to be writing anything of substance. Believe me. It was for all of our benefits.
Dear, dear Corinthians, I can’t tell you how much I long for you to enter this wide-open, spacious life. We didn’t fence you in. The smallness you feel comes from within you. Your lives aren’t small, but you’re living them in a small way. I’m speaking as plainly as I can and with great affection. Open up your lives. Live openly and expansively! ~ 2 Corinthians 6:11-13 MSG
If you’re anything like me, you’ve often wondered why in the world you’re here, living in this place at this time. Most of the time our thoughts and dreams are much bigger than the lives we actually lead.
And we’re sitting here perfectly okay with that.
We come up with all kinds of excuses to justify why we’re not living our lives out to the fullest extent.
We’re too busy.
We’re too tired.
What if people think I’m crazy?
I’d rather just sit right here and live an okay life that I’m content with than live an exceptional life.
I know these aren’t probably the exact words that go through our heads, or we may not even know that we’re thinking them. But the way we’re living is a dead giveaway.
Do you love your job or is it something you do to pay the bills?
Do you love your community or is it just a stepping stone until you find somewhere better?
These are questions that we need to ask ourselves every day…sometimes every hour.
“The smallness you feel comes from within you. Your lives aren’t small, but you’re living them in a small way.”
We let our circumstances dictate how we will respond instead of responding despite our circumstances.
I totally understand having to work at a job that you’re not in love with in order to get from point A to point B. I just don’t want you to forget where you’re going in the meantime. It may not be ideal, but you can learn to love it. It is your choice how you go about your day. Circumstances are going to change. Walls are going to be built up. Walls are going to be torn down. Doors will open and shut all in the matter of seconds.
We need to be alert and ready so we don’t miss these opportunities to live big lives. My actions should not dictate the way your respond. You actions should not ruin my day. Maybe you hate something I’ve written. That’s okay. I didn’t hate it.
We have choices, and these choices give us freedom.
I don’t want you to continue to live small lives simply because you believe that you’re small. Your attitude in situations, large and small, will change the course of your day. Wake up and live large in the freedoms that we have in Christ.
“Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” ~ Abraham Lincoln
What is something that you can do daily to choose to live openly and expansively?
