Along The Journey0
All prise to the God and Father of our Master, Jesus the Messiah! Father of all mercy! God of all healing counsel! He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us. We have plenty of hard times that come from following the Messiah, but no more so than the good times of His healing comfort – we get a full measure of that, too. ~ 2 Corinthians 3-5 The Message
I guess I’d better admit to you right up front that a lot of times I get my Monday morning blog post from my Sunday evening Bible study group. Sometimes I don’t, but a lot of times I wait until I get home to write it because I know there’s going to be some good stuff talked about there. I was particularly excited last night, though, about this text we were studying.
I talk on here a lot about journeying through life with people surrounding you. I think if you never get anything else out of reading this blog, I want you to get that. Surround yourself with good friends. Keep them close. You’ll be able to strengthen each other as you go through the good and the bad.
But I was just reminded again tonight of how important it is to have people to walking alongside you. It’s good for you when you have someone to lean on, and you get strengthened when you have someone to hold up. I think that’s the part I forget most often. I love it when they’re there to lean on, but I forget what an incredible experience it is for me to be able to hold someone up, as well. The more you hold fast, the stronger you become.
I love it, too, how Paul wraps up this chapter with this:
We’re not in charge of how you live out the faith, looking over your shoulders, suspiciously critical. We’re partners, working alongside you, joyfully expectant. I know that you stand by your own faith, not by ours. ~ 2 Corinthians 1:25 The Message
I believe people were placed in our lives for a reason. I believe we’re to walk alongside each other along the journey.
May God bless you with people to hold you up when you’re having a hard time and people to celebrate with you when things are good.
It’s one of the greatest gifts I can think of for you.
