Delay Of Game

'Rain delay' photo (c) 2010, Dave Herholz - license: “watched” the Super Bowl last night, so that’s where this title comes from.  A delay of game is something that when you’re watching the game, it seems like they have forever in-between plays, but yet they still can’t get it together within the time limits.  I feel like there are times in my life that are that way.  You know, I’ve had so much time to get stuff together, and still sometimes I find myself just not ready.

At all.

In the ball game it’s a penalty.  You lose some valuable points.  You lose one shot at a touchdown.  But you usually get to try for it again.  Life mirrors sports so much, whether you like sports or not.  When you’re going for something and you screw up, it’s just a setback.  Most of the time it’s not the end of the game for you.

There is always room for grace.

We fight and we hustle and we prepare and we work towards victory, but sometimes we fail.  And then we work and hustle and fight and hustle some more, and still sometimes we fail.  Sometimes there’s a defensive line blocking the way to the goal.  Sometimes it’s something we forgot.  And sometimes we’re just not ready.

But there is always room for grace.

So what if you fall down seven times. Get back up eight.  You’ve been given a second chance…in everything.  It’s totally up to you whether or not you want to take it.

So give yourself some grace.

You’ve screwed up.  Who hasn’t?  You’ve embarrassed yourself.  Have you met me?  Your life just isn’t at all what you were hoping it would be by now.  Really?  Do you know someone who has that kind of life?  You know, the one that went perfectly according to their dreams?  Me either.

And please don’t ever forget that you’ve been given grace from the Creator of all things.  He’s kind of a big deal.

So whether your life has been delayed or not, just keep getting back up.  Hustle, hustle, hustle.

There’s always room for grace.
